Alexander Rodchenko Photo Shoot
In this photo shoot i took pictures of bmxing in Paignton on the 21st and 22nd of September 2013. One of the locations was Parkfield skate park and the other being Churston half pipe. My inspiration for this photo shoot was the photographer Alexander Rodchenko from Russia. These photos were taken back in a black and white effect because this is the way Rodchenko took his photos. During this photo shoot my theme was to use the technique leading lines.
How Does This Photo Shoot Fit Into Your Theme?
This photo shoot fits in perfectly to my theme of work due to the way skate parks are made, for example with all of the different ramps in a skate park such as the top of a quarter pipe or even a vertical wall, the top of these ramps are a great object to use for the technique leading lines (as shown in my first photo.)
What Were You Trying To Achieve?
In this photo shoot I was trying to relate to Rochenko's work. I did this by using the similar techniques that Rodchenko used such as leading lines and taking his photos in black and white (it wasnt an option for Rodchenko) I also tried to achieve a more dramatic picture instead of a spimple picture, I did this by taking pictures from different angles and taking lots of photos until i found something that nearly worked and worked off that, until I was left with my pictures I was happy with.
What Were You Influenced By During The Planning Of The Photo Shoot And The Shoot Itself?
This photoshoot had to include elements of Rodchenko's work and i have used leading lines as well as his use of black and white but he was not the only influence on my photo shoot. I took pictures of my friend Jai on his BMX because i could use his bike for abstract images and the ramps for leading lines as well as this being my interest.
What Did I learn During This Photo Shoot?
During this photo shoot i learnt that i can take my pictures from different angles and that its ok to experiment with photography, using this method gives me the ability to display my pictures from a different point of view. Alternatively taking pictures with a similar angle gives me a stronger set of images.
Do You Think You Were Successful In Achieving Your Aim, Using Named Images To Illustrate Your Point?
My aim in this photo shoot was to get my photos to relate to Rochenko's work. In Photo number one I have related to Rochenko's work by using the black and white effect (like he used to) and by using leadig lines (the coping.) I also related to Rodchenko's work in picture number two, i used elements of his work in my photos like his use of leading lines on surroundings, he used a ladder i used trees, as well as the black and white effect again.
What Didn't Work In This Photo Shoot?
In my picture number two I felt that the light wasn't direceted in the correct way. This then led to Jai, (my main attraction) becoming slightly harder to see which then resulted in my picture being degraded.
What Will Your Next Shoot Be Based On What You Have Learnt From This Shoot?
My next shoot will be based around light and my use of exposure and a mix of techniques all together (light, flash, angles, exposure, light tracks and shutter speed.)
Do You Need To Research Anything Or Practice Anything Before Your Next Shoot?
I am going to try and practice the use of light and the way it enters my pictures as well as studying the use of angles, especially with this topic (BMXING.)
