Contrast
Contrast is something that is placed next to another and is completely different, this leads it to be juxtaposed meaning that the two are major opposites. Contrast can also be used to direct the viewer towards the part you want them to see. "The state of being strikingly different from something else in juxtaposition or close association" - Definition of Contrast.
Tonal Contrast
In black and white photography, contrast is considered either high, normal or low. A high contrast scene or photograph consists primarily of white and black with a few or no middle grey tones. Tonal is the contrast between light and dark.
Colour Contrast
Colour contrast is very important because its effective and makes a huge impact on your photos, each colour next to each other highlights the quality and makes it dramatically stand out.

As soon as you look at this particular photo your eyes are immediately drawn to the orange beak on the bird, this is because the photographer has used the technique called "Contrast" he places a colour right next to another colour which are completely different (Luminous orange and sky blue.) The photographer has used contrast really cleverly in this photo, by placing the contrasted part of the image in the middle of the picture as well as using the rule of thirds he gets the viewer to look at the rest of the image, the viewer will look at the things that surround the contrasted image after they have looked at what they were first attracted to. This is why contrast is a good technique to use.

This photo shows great contrast, the reason behind this is because the red apple contrasts the rest of the green apples due to the red apple being a completely different colour to all of the green ones. One of the other reasons this image works nicely is that there are more than one green apple. The red apple is the first thing you see when you look at the image because it stands out from the res of the background, its just human nature.

In this image i used a very vibrant use of contrast, with a bright yellow background that follows some sort of shape to a very thin use of anodized purple, again using depth of field it merges into the background creating personality with the picture, with yellow and purple being completely different colours it makes the purple stand out, with the help of depth of field it makes it stronger image.

This photo is a great example of contrast in photography, there are a few reasons behind that, one of which creates a great texture on the leaves. By using depth of field i mange to create a slightly blurred background, without that use of depth of field the photo wouldn't be as effective. This photo had to be taken a number of times and form different angles to get a picture i was happy with as you will see in some of the other photos it hasnt got the right angle of light.

This is one of the many retakes i had to do of the photo, I didn't like this image due to a couple of reasons. One of which being that the light hasnt been angled correctly which leaves a distorted glow at the back of the image, another reason is that this images leaves make the image look messy, not well composed and out of place and this can have an effect on how people view your photography.
