Joe McNally - Communication Photoshoot
In this photo shoot I had to firstly explore a theme, I have chosen to look at communication due to communication frequently occurring in everybody's day to day lives. Throughout the project I am going to be analyzing the photographs that McNally has taken and look in depth to reasoning behind the photos.
Did This Photoshoot Fit Into Your Theme?
Yes, a high proportion of McNally's photography is portrait photography, in my opinion once first coming across McNally's images it really came true to me the diversity and abstract images, facial expressions and other techniques bring to a photograph. These types of techniques really have a big play in every day to day lives and photography is a good way to toy and express this kind of thing. As well as this it makes for a very interesting photo seeing as it leaves many unanswered questions for people to view and ponder.
What Were You Aiming To Do In This Photoshoot?
First of all, seeing as it was the start of a new project I wanted to start thinking about where I can take this project and how I can get there as well as this I wanted to use and get to grasp with portrait photography, in addition I wanted to incorporate some of McNally's skills that he has used previously into some of my images. This way I could add these techniques to my photography in the future.
What Were You Influenced By During The Planning Of This Photo Shoot?
A friend recommended looking at his Images and after seeing the style and the standard of images McNally took It really inspired me to focus a project upon him. After thinking back over my first thoughts when being introduced to his photography It struck me that there was lots of character within his images, I initially wanted to learn to do this but after a long think it became clear that there is more behind it and its a lot to do with communication and how we use it everyday that its impossible in the way we communicate ideas.
What Did You Learn Throughout This Photo Shoot?
Firstly I learnt that communication is a very important part of our lives day in day out and without it we would struggle to communicate the ideas and messages we are trying to. Secondly I learnt how to compose portrait photography to a style I am happy with.
What Didn't Work In Your Photo Shoot?
Although the quality of my photography is not at its highest by far I would like to see this photo shoot as a test and a learning curve on how to add certain effects to my photography on the next part of this project. Its clear the image standard isn't amazing but it was about using McNally's techniques to my advantages and after testing and taking photos with this mindset and using his techniques and focusing on the way people communicate it allowed me to think ahead in my project.
