Jake Sims - Shadows Photoshoot
This photo shoot I will be focusing upon photograph done by Jake Sim. Within this project based on Sim I will be looking at exploring the photos beyond what they look like at a first glance. I think its important to see why he would of used certain techniques, how, why and what they bring to a photograph. Do these improve Jake's photography? By doing this I can gain a strong understanding in shadows and hopefully learn to use these in my work in the future. Pinpointing certain things that have been added on purpose allow me to get down to the pure analyzing and improve my photography by leaps and bounds due to learning the key features on shadows.
How Does This Photo Shoot Fit Into Your Theme?
Throughout Jake's photographs he has a tight grip and connection with shadows. As well as this he also has a connection with his exercise such as motor cross and skateboarding which both include multiple techniques, one of which is shadows. A lot of my work is Bmxing therefore my work immediately links to this type of work.
What Were You Aiming To Do In This Photo Shoot?
In this photo shoot I wanted to achieve some personal goals within my photography skills and understanding in this subject/genre (Shadows.) By learning the techniques from a professional I can then apply these to my own work to improve my photography as a whole. Also I wanted to have a clear understanding in Shadows so that I can then explore further in my own time with experimental shadow photography. As well as this I will explore Sims photographs into depth so that I can see how he uses his surroundings in his work.
What Were You Influenced By During The Planning Of This Photo Shoot?
After studying Colin Henderson and seeing his subtle use of shadows it made me believe that shadows could be used in most photography if they are used in the correct manor. Therefore seeing as I have followed a long line of Bmx photo shoots I wanted to experiment and see if shadows could be incorporated into my photography. I loved the atmosphere and affect the use of shadows added to Henderson's photography I decided to experiment with shadows.
What Did You Learn Throughout This Photo Shoot?
Throughout this unit I have learnt about the use of shadows. Although shadows is a lot to do with light and trying to get in perfect, I have also learnt that in addition to this that shadows is a lot to do with timing, for example when the photo is taken also I believe its to do with the angle of the image.
